Description: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa relocated to a new 9,800-square-foot Youth Mentoring Center in Des Moines, transforming a former multi-tenant office building into a purpose-driven space. The renovation was designed from the ground up to support the organization’s mission, with the top floor dedicated to offices and open workstations featuring ergonomic furniture for staff comfort. The main floor includes a large conference room equipped with collaborative furniture and technology, along with welcoming gathering areas for mentors and mentees. The basement was reimagined as a vibrant game room, creating an engaging and relaxed environment for youth activities.
Achievements: The project successfully converted an outdated office building into a functional, inviting mentoring center that supports collaboration, connection, and youth engagement. Thoughtful space planning and furniture selection enhanced staff productivity, improved meeting and mentoring experiences, and created dynamic areas for recreation and relationship-building. The completed renovation delivers a warm, community-focused environment that aligns with and strengthens the organization’s mission.
