Iowa Realty is Iowa’s largest real estate company with over $1.7 billion in sales in 2000. Iowa Realty opened
a new office in Ankeny, IA and enlisted WorkSpace Inc to create a new environment.
Iowa Realty and First Realty are individual companies previously located in different buildings. A corporate
decision was made to join the companies in the same location. An open warehouse was selected with the challenge
to integrate them while retaining separate identities.
SPACE CHALLENGES
The real estate agents needed workstations to use as a 'home base' when not out selling. They also required
room to meet individually with clients. The remaining ceiling was raw and open, creating a challenge for lighting
and cabling.
SOLUTIONS
Ultimately, the technology became the solution. Nothing is hidden. Systems furniture was chosen that accommodates
flexibility and technology. Varying panel heights allow open vistas of the entire space. Freestanding furniture
completed the look in the private offices.
A mezzanine and offices were created at an angle of less than 90 degrees. This accomplished visual interest
and additional square footage to the warehouse, also providing an architectural division for each company within
the same space.
RESULTS
Iowa Realty and First Realty retain their separate identities while benefiting from the open and exciting work
environment. The space keeps pace with a sales force on the move and inspires creativity with its innovative
